Project: Factory Re-roofing (Phase 3)
Client: Lindum BMS
Location: Lincoln
Timescale: Five weeks
Operations Manager: Nick Coughlan
Supervisor: Chris Hall
As part of a successful, ongoing wider project to replace all the roofing at a major engineering factory in Lincoln, Phase Three saw the removal and disposal of asbestos coated boards lining the underside of the roof structure in one large area of the site.
Rilmac Scaffolding provided the access and safety scaffolding, along with a protective false floor which allowed work in the factory below to continue unhindered. Additionally, an 18m reach, 800kg capacity scissor lift was used to transport materials to the roof gully, and to remove all waste in secure containers.
This approach allowed for skylights and non-asbestos roof and gable end wall panels to be removed for use as access and egress airlocks, waste bag locks, and for the installation of Negative Pressure Units. Thus, no hazardous waste was transported through the factory at all and was all removed externally instead, making the project safer still.
In total approximately 700m2 of asbestos coated fibre board were safely removed and disposed of by a highly trained team of six operatives over just 23 days.
