Rilmac Fabrication Estimator and Project Engineer, Richard Tune, will be putting his best foot forward and running the Lincoln Half Marathon on Sunday 1st October. Although not a natural runner, or competitor in such events, Richard is determined to be involved as he is supporting a charity very close to his heart.

Richard will be running as part of Team Hendrie, a group of friends and family members who are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support. There are two important reasons that Macmillan are close to Richard’s heart.

Firstly, Richard’s close friend Tom has been diagnosed with terminal cancer and he and his family are going through a very difficult time. Tom had intended to run the half marathon himself last year but was unable to take part due to his diagnosis and treatment plan. However, he will be cheering Team Hendrie on all the way. Tom’s diagnosis came from out of the blue and was a devastating blow for his family and friends.

Macmillan were also there to support Richard and his family when they needed help to get through a difficult and tragic time. It is because of this support that Richard shall be stepping out of his comfort zone to raise much needed funds. “It is my pleasure to do something that may generate help for others in years to come.” Richard said.

“I have been able to accept that life doesn’t stop just because you’ve been diagnosed with cancer.” Said Tom “I’m a dad, a husband, a son and a friend and I remain all those things. I cherish every moment with my wonderful family and friends. Thank you to all of you who have supported us during this last year.”

Although he may be unable to run Tom will be joining Richard and the rest of Team Hendrie the Sunday prior to the half marathon for a 13.1 mile walk in the Yorkshire Dales. Everyone at the Rilmac Group would like to offer Richard, Team Hendrie, and Tom and his family all the very best of luck.
