Project: Contaminated Pipework Removal

When Boots UK Ltd contracted Rilmac Asbestos Services Ltd to carry out the removal of contaminated insulation for a 10” steam pipe and additional asbestos debris it was agreed that, for staff convenience this would be completed over a weekend.  The project took place on the first floor of the LVC production area at the Boots site in Nottingham and commenced at 6pm on a Friday to ensure all personnel were clear.  The steam pipe was already isolated when Rilmac arrived on site.

The LVC production area is a controlled zone so all timber used in the enclosure was sealed on all faces before arrival and no timber was cut on site.  This ensured that no saw dust or timber splinters could contaminate the production area.  The enclosure was erected using a 2m platform lightweight aluminium scaffold tower.

There was always a representative from Boots on site and the appointed analysts were in attendance to carry out all monitoring.  The removal work and fine cleaning were carried out on the Saturday, while the 4-stage clearance was carried out on the Sunday ensuring the work was completed and the enclosure dismantled in good time for staff to return on Monday morning.
