Project: Heating Insulation in Apartment Blocks

Rilmac Insulation, working with a heating and energy company, have been contracted to provide heating insulation for a prestigious new apartment block in London.  The project includes internal pipework insulation on floors, corridors, risers and in the car park.  Externally there is pipework insulation fitted with electrical trace heating.  Additionally, thermal stores, a tank room, and an energy centre are also being insulated by Rilmac.

The Carmen Street development in Poplar, London, consists of a basement / car park, external energy centre, and three apartment blocks, the largest of which is 22 floors.  In total there will be 206 apartments, 56 of which will be social housing, plus an element of shared ownership.

The general pipework is being lagged with phenolic pipe insulation, with the external components having electrical trace heating built in before being clad with PIB.  The energy centre and tank room will have the insulation protected with Stucco aluminium sheeting with valves and flanges covered in removable, lined aluminium boxes.  The two thermal stores are insulated with 100mm mineral wool slab and also protected with stucco aluminium.

The main 22 storey block was first completed, with the 6 and 5 floor blocks following on prior to the rest of the buildings.  Initial feedback from the customer has been positive.
