The swing bridge which spans the River Nene in Lincolnshire is a notable feature and the current version, known as Cross Keys Bridge, was built in 1897. The bridge was originally dual purpose, serving both road and rail traffic until 1959 when the railway closed.
The additional fabricated ‘basket handle’ was manufactured to match the existing iron work, and was fully fabricated, welded and finish painted. This additional feature was installed to reduce the speed of the large volume of heavy goods traffic on the A17 road.
